How we're responding to the crisis

Masks for employees

We've delivered millions of masks across our entire network. They are available to all Amazon associates, delivery service partners, Amazon Flex participants, seasonal employees and Whole Foods Market stores employees, and we are encouraging everyone to take and use them.

Social distancing

We've adjusted our practices so that our fulfillment center employees can maintain a safer distance from co-workers. We've staggered shift start times and break times, spread out tables in the break rooms on site, and suspended exit screening to ensure ease of movement near main entrances.

 

Temperature checks

As an additional preventative measure, everyone will have their temperature checked before entering the building. We check temperatures across our entire U.S. and European operations network and Whole Foods Market stores testing hundreds of thousands of people daily.

Is Amazon hiring during COVID-19 crisis?

Our original jobs pledge to hire an additional 100,000 people in full and part-time jobs across our Operations network to keep as many people as possible working during this crisis is filled, and those new employees are working at sites across the U.S. helping to serve customers. We continue to see increased demand as our teams support their communities, and are going to continue to hire, creating an additional 75,000 jobs to help serve customers during this unprecedented time.

What is Amazon doing to provide a safe experience for candidates during the hiring process?

We have moved as much of our process as possible from physical to virtual steps. So instead of attending in person, candidates can complete more steps from home than before.

If you live in an area that requires wearing face coverings, please wear one to Office Hours. During your appointment, you may be required to have a temperature check.

We ask candidates to not attend if any of the following applies to them:

  • They are living with someone who has been confirmed COVID-19 positive, and have medical advice to self-quarantine.
  • They have a temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher.
  • They are in a 14-day period of self-isolation directed by a healthcare provider or health official.
  • They have traveled to another country in the last 14 days.
  • They currently have a cough, or shortness of breath.

Can I work for Amazon if there is a Curfew/Shelter-in-Place order in my city?

Yes, Amazon remains open as an essential service to serve our communities delivering critical supplies directly to the doorsteps of people who need them.

What is Amazon doing to provide a safe environment for employees at this time?

Amazon is committed to the health and safety of our associates, delivery service partners, drivers, employees, and customers. Now more than ever, Amazon's fulfillment, delivery, and physical store networks play a critical role in serving customers. In these unprecedented times, we remain committed to the health and safety of our employees, partners, and the customers we serve.

We began temperature checks at select sites around the U.S. in an effort to ensure that employees and support staff are healthy when they arrive at work. Anyone registering a temperature over the CDC-recommended 100.4F will be asked to return home and only come back to work after they’ve gone three days without a fever.

What is Amazon doing to help employees during the COVID-19 crisis?

All Amazon employees diagnosed with COVID-19 or placed into quarantine will receive up to two weeks of pay. This additional pay while away from work is to ensure employees have the time they need to return to good health without the worry of lost income. This is in addition to unlimited unpaid time off for all hourly employees through the end of March. Read more >
