When you work for us, you’re working for a company that cares about the Earth
As part of Amazon’s mission, we have made a commitment to building a sustainable company for our associates, our communities, and our planet. As an associate, you’ll experience first-hand how we are fulfilling multiple high-level efforts from The Climate Pledge — our promise to achieve net-carbon emissions across our business by 2040 and inspire others to reach this new level of ambition.
Our timeline to a more sustainable future
Electric vehicles deployed by 2030
of Amazon shipments with net-zero carbon by 2030
of Amazon operations powered by renewable energy by 2025
Carbon emissions by 2040, 10 years ahead of the Paris Ciimate Agreement
A commitment to sustainability starts at the workplace
We have already made significant headway in creating a net-zero carbon future. This is only possible when we ensure our associates have a safe and healthy environment to work.
In addition to reducing water and fuel usage, we are minimizing energy use across all operations. Our facilities feature state-of-the-art technology and efficient building practices, with many of our warehouses powered by on-site solar.
Amazon Sustainability Ambassadors
We value the input of our associates. That’s why we have Sustainability Ambassadors, where more than 7,500 Amazonians have joined together to expand the efforts to reduce our environmental impacts. One example of this initiative comes from an ambassador team in Poland, where members redesigned the waste segregation process in their fulfillment center, improving waste recycling rates by more than 90%.
Expanding our environmental efforts
As an associate, you’d experience our ecological transformation in real-time. With electric delivery vehicles, improved packaging, and our Shipment Zero initiative, our services are becoming more sustainable to improve the future of our communities.
In 2021, we rolled out the first of our custom electric delivery vehicles in Los Angeles, and plan to have 100,000 vehicles deployed by 2030. Our Delivery Stations will be working with these vehicles and ensuring our packages make it to our customers safely, quickly and in an environmentally-friendly way.
Our Amazon Air facilities use low-carbon fuel alternatives that reduce our carbon emissions in flight by up to 20% over the standard fuel. On the ground we use cutting-edge electric equipment to service our planes and are working to generate on-site renewable energy by equipping air cargo facilities with rooftop solar panels. When it comes to our Amazon Air facilities, we use low-carbon fuel, electric main deck loaders, and are working towards powering operations with 100% renewable energy by 2030.
Our goal is to deliver 50% of Amazon shipments with net-zero carbon by 2030. This means that the fulfillment operations we undertake at our warehouses — including our Sortation Centers — and the shipments to customers will be net-zero carbon.
Our Fulfillment Centers use new ecologically-friendlier packaging that eliminates waste and ensures products arrive intact and undamaged.
A sustainable business means working towards a better planet
As part of our commitment to sustainability, we are taking a broad, science-based approach that will have positive lasting effects on the planet – and you’d work for a company that’s a part of a history-changing initiative.
Amazon is on a path to powering our operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025 — five years ahead of our original target of 2030. We are currently at 65% renewable energy use across our business.
